Big big big news!
Sorry about not keeping to the schedule. Had some minor internet problems, been terribly busy, and I'M IN INDONESIA, and it's not like anyone's gonna kick my ass for being late.
>___> Right?
Anyway, saw the Incredible Hulk, thought it ABSOLUTELY FANTASMAGORIC. Seriously, had the world's biggest nerdgasm in the world. Edward Norton was amazing, and I'm glad they got the Hulk perfect this time round. Unlike most people, I do actually like the old Ang Lee Hulk movie. I understand what he was going for, but the thing is, with comic book movies, you can't always do what you want to do. Lee deviated a bit too far from the source material, and removed some of the more exiting parts of the Hulk to tell a story he wanted to tell, which unfortunately, did not end up being that exciting. I feel he was somewhat selfish with the film, because he wasn't out to please the fans, nor I suspect absolutely everyone, which led to the panning of the movie by pretty much everyone. I understand why everyone hated it, and I'm not saying it's unjustified. Just kind of annyoing how many people start to bash it constantly.
Anyway, back to The Incredible Hulk, I'm not going to spoil it for anyone, but yes, for fuck's sake, I cried. I am an emotional person, it's how I work. I am, however, also violent person, so if anyone tries to constantly make funny about this besides those close to me, ass-kicking will ensure.
The movie has much more action than the last one, rest assured. Norton brings the silent, yet geeky intensity Bruce Banner should have, and really shows the pressure of a man with a bigass monster inside him in his role. The Hulk himself, coupled with Lou Ferrigno's voice is monstrous, and well...hulky. You can feel the animalistic power radiating from this thing when he comes on screen, incontrast to Lee's Hulk, which, on looking back, was kinda...fat. Liv Tyer's Betty Ross ACTUALLY DOES IMPORTANT STUFF in this movie, unlike the last movie's Betty Ross, who to be honest, was rather annoying.
Tim Roth as Emil Blonksy brings the cold villain factor to the movie, as a solider who is nearly past his prime, but wanting to stay in the game, leading down a dark path that transforms him into everyone's favourite Abomination. The fight scene in the movie brings what Ang Lee's Hulk lacked, the total PWNAGE factor of the movie. Similarly, William Hurt's General Ross brings the dickhead villain factor, as the guy everyone loves to hate, because, frankly, General Ross IS a dickhead.
And the scene at the end with Tony Stark is frankly, the geeky cherry on the nerd cake. Classic.
Anyway, last Monday a whole bunch of stuff happened, but I'd also like to note I bought a PSP. Deep Red colour, pure awesome, finished Megaman: Powered Up already, so all's good in the hood.
GAoing back to Monday, around 4:00 I was hanging out in Funan with Bryant. After skirting around the mall a bit, we inevitably and predictably ended up in the comic store there. During a somewhat heated discussion with Bryant about I think was Spider-Man: Brand New Day, (Curse you to hell, Joe Quesada.) three guys came into the store.
They were all pretty tall, except for one guy in a cap. The first guy was pretty tall, with a bit of a beard, and overhearing him I heard him speak English in some kind of accent, which I would later learn was Italian. The second was just about as tall as the first guy, maybe even a bit taller, black, and spoke in an English accent. The aforementioned shorter guy in the cap didn't speak much, but I'd later find out he was Spanish.
The guy with the beard approached me in the store. Talk ensured, but the gist of it was pretty much that these three guys were over here for work and looking for a place to buy a PS3. After recommending Empire Games (Place I buy at, awesome people and uber-reliable) I inquired to what work they were doing in Singapore, as they were here for a year.
Get this. These guys were animators working on the new Star Wars: Clone Wars T.V series and movie.
NERDGAZM!
Anyway, after a few more pleasantries we parted ways, and Bryant and I ended up in a game store. Lo and behold, there they were, at the same store. After talking to them again, the Italian guy sighted some kid play Halo 3 on one of the store's 360's. He told us that he'd actually worked on the game, and described one of the cutscenes he'd animated. It was the one, where, and I quote: "The one with that hologram chick...ah fuck, what was her name? Anyway, she's dying and Master Chief and everyone is around her. I did that."
NERDGAZM.
Anyway, we saw them a couple more times around the mall, seriously by coincidence, they were hitting all the game shops we were. After grabbing lunch, we said goodbye as I headed over to the Singapore Flyer for a night with Nikhil, Katy, and Samantha, as it was Sam's last day in Singapore before she moved to the UK.
The Flyer is kinda slow, but the view you get is amazing. I'll admit I had a bit of nervousness in initially getting into the thing, but at the end of the day it was a fun ride. Afterwards the four of us went out to Suntec's NYDC for dinner, and took a walk. Conversation and talk ensured, and all in all it was a fantastic night.
Anyway, gotta finish up. Secret Indi stuff to do.
